". . . by doing nothing,  you can make a difference"

In 1998 David Booth MBE founded the East Bali Poverty Project, a non-profit organization, in response to an appeal for help by an isolated mountain community in north-east Bali. Thousands of people lived in a village of 19 isolated hamlets high in the steep and arid mountains. They lived in abject poverty, without roads, water, sanitation, adequate nutrition, and health and education facilities. The children were the main victims. Since then David and his team have changed - for the better - hundreds of lives. For more information on this incredible organization go to www.eastbalipovertyproject.org

Fast forward to 2004. Having raised a family, and run a successful business, an Australian visited East Bali. Taken by surprise at the intensely beautiful and spiritual area, they decided to build a home here. However, still having responsibilities in Australia, there was a small problem. What to do with the house when it was not in use? Renting was the obvious answer... but what to do with the money? They were determined that this would have to be a win/win situation for the people of East Bali. So the solution was rather obvious. All rental monies, after deduction of basic costs, go to the East Bali Poverty Project. At the current time this is 10% of all rental monies received. It seemed to be the perfect solution. The house provides employment for 10 Balinese. It brings people to East Bali so they can experience the wonder of "old Bali." The families in the mountains, who desperately need help, receive it.

So while you are on holiday - doing nothing but soaking up the sun, and enjoying the magic of the Island of the Gods - you are actually making an enormous difference to those in need in East Bali.
