Timur Restaurant

Timur restaurant evolved from our ex-pat needs to have a decent coffee in the morning. We were sick of Bali coffee, and unable to find a method to effectively produce a cappuccino without an espresso machine. So the simple solution to a simple problem was to build a facility where we could all meet and have our coffee. Maybe a slice of cake, or a fresh salad – things that simply don’t exist in your average eatery up here – could also be included?

Timur is now a reality. The restaurant seats only 22. It is available to our guests, our ex-pat friends, and anyone they send to us. It is not available to anyone on a walk in basis. Why? Because it is located in the Dua Gils complex, and this is your home while you are here. We want to make sure that your stay is not compromised with some of the ugly behaviour can exhibited by some, when on holiday in Bali.

Meals, even if you are a guest, are by reservation only. The latest we will serve dinner is 8pm. The menu is a mix, but the unity that ties the diverse dishes, is the emphasis we place on freshness. Salads, often an afterthought on most menus, are our specialty. You can eat Nasi Goring everywhere, but guests request it, so it is a dish we have to include. But you can also opt for a delicious citrus spiced barbeque prawn salad, or Thai noodle balls, and even an honest to goodness fresh pesto spaghetti topped with cheese that is grated, and not poured out of a can.

Timur also houses our library, and a small selection of gift ideas that have resulted from other ex-pat’s endeavours to enhance, rather than abuse, the island of Bali.

Our full menu can be downloaded here. Ten percent of your bill is donated, on a weekly basis, to Habitat For Humanity Indonesia.

Oh! And the coffee machine that was the inspiration for this all? It is still to be sourced. They are outrageously expensive, and all seem to involve signing up for long, detailed, and expensive contracts with local suppliers. So you will just have to enjoy a Bali coffee, like we all do!

Selamat Makan.
(Indonesian speak for: Enjoy your meal!)
